Week 6 - COVID 19 - UX Observation

On May 4, 2021, President Biden set the goal to have 70% of the US population vaccinated by 7/4/21. While that goal was not successful, I used the term "Covid-19" to fuel my search for this week. It's a great term to search because there are so many websites and posts about the topic as it has consumed our lives for the last year and a half.

To rate the websites I stumbled upon, I will be using the following key:

0 – This is not a usability problem
1 – Cosmetic problem
2 – minor usability problem
3 – major usability problem
4 – usability catastrophe; imperative to fix

1) https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/index.html (Rating 0) - Of course, one of the first sites that came up was the CDC's website. It has a wealth of information about various illnesses and it is also a great resource for non-COVID information. The website is clean, has great infographics, quick facts, and an option to select what type of consumer you are.

2) https://www.co.henry.ga.us/ (Rating 3) - Another top search result was the Henry County GA site. It came up fine with the link that I selected. However, when I attempted to navigate to the main landing page to analyze the overall appearance, I received a pretty bad error. I could not get to the main landing page even when I tried to Google just the main site. Unsure if this is something just on my computer or if it's a temporary glitch, but whatever the case, this makes for a bad user experience. The only reason why I didn't rate it lower was because, when I went back to my original link, I was able to move throughout the other navigations.

 3) https://covid19.who.int/ (Rating 0) - The World Health Organization has created an amazing website to capture the impact of COVID 19 on the world. It has a bunch of easy-to-understand charts and graphs to summarize the data they have collected. Navigating from the COVID area to the main site, the clean theme continues even in the sections for other health topics like Ebola and Air pollution.

4) https://science.sciencemag.org/ (Rating 0) - I love this site. It is visually appealing, has a great layout and conveys what a user may be looking for in a clean and concise manner. It does have ads, but it is not obtrusive and is off to one side so its not easily mixed in with the content. What I also like is on the landing page you are able to read a summary or detail of an aritcle. That is really helpful if you want to choose how much time to spend on the news.

5) https://www.covid19.com/ (Rating 3) - I was shocked to see that the web domain covid 19 doesn't really have a strong pressence. Its almost as if someone purchased the site and really didn't know what to do with it. For that reason I am giving it a low rating. It does have some links that you can click on, possibly to learn more, but I didn't test it out because I didn't want to risk getting a virus. Ironic...
