Hello everyone. Here are my 5 user experience website reviews for this week. To make it easier on myself, I have decided to think of a term to search in Google and then look at the first few websites in the list and rank those. For this week, I chose the search term: "best dogs for single women."
To rank them, I will be using the following key:
0 – This is not a usability problem
1 – Cosmetic problem
2 – minor usability problem
3 – major usability problem
4 – usability catastrophe; imperative to fix
Here are the websites that came up and my review of them.
1. https://scottsk9.com/ (Ranking 1) - This website is actually a breeder site where they have Belgian Malinois and German Shepherd for sale. I did view the blog post they had regarding my search and it was pretty good, but I ended up going out and reviewing the main site so that I could give a better critique. With their goal of selling dogs in mind, I believe that this website is pretty good. They have plenty of information about the dog types, how to get in contact with them, and pretty much everything you need to know about purchasing. The only thing I would say if I had to come up with something, is that they have a lot of testimonials and some could be cleared out.
2. https://www.k9ofmine.com/ (Raking 0) - K9ofmine is a dog training and education site. This website and all the cute pictures of the dogs are so cute. They have so many great images and resources for those who have dogs. It's great links to contact them and even vets. I would visit this site again.
3. https://topdogtips.com/ (Ranking 3) - The moment I came to this website I knew that I would not love it. There are so many ads and drop-down banners that it's hard to navigate and pay attention to what you are on there for. This seems to just be a website to drive traffic for ad sales because they have used every free space to advertise and the advertisements aren't even related to dogs. If they reduced some of the ads, then maybe this site wouldn't be so bad.
4. https://www.embracepetinsurance.com/ (Ranking 0) - This website is for pet insurance, they have a section for claims, new customers, insurance comparison, and general information and resources about pet ownership. I really liked this site and felt it was extremely user-friendly.
5. https://pethelpful.com/ (Ranking 2.5) -This is another blog site that doubles as an ad platform. They have published information that is semi-useful in an attempt to get people to visit the page so they can obtain visit ad dollars. Although these types of websites aren't great. This one isn't too bad. There are still plenty of advertisements, but they are a lot more useful than the other one on this report. When you go deeper into the site, there are more and more video ads but you can read the posts through 1/3 page slither before you find the way to close it out. I can't imagine what it looks like on phones. I guess it could be worse.
